Profound Reminders

Happy Friday my Dear Readers!

This video was passed along to me and I wanted to share it with all of you. It is a profound reminder of the very different lives we live. We walk among the heroes and the heartbroken and we don’t even know it. We walk among people who are going through the biggest joys and the deepest pains and we don’t even know it. We walk among the broken and the healed we don’t even know it. Though this video takes place in a hospital, the scene could be anywhere. Your local coffee shop, grocery store, your kids school drop-off line or bustling sidewalk in Manhattan.

How would we treat others if we knew what they knew? How would we treat them if we could see what they see?

This video reminded me of one of my favorite movies, Jerry Maguire. In mid-flipout mode after he got fired, Jerry said something that to this day echoes in my brain. It’s a tiny sentence that if you don’t know is there you might miss it. It’s right before the takes Flipper out of the fish tank (like I said, mid-flipout mode)… He said “I’m sorry but it’s a fact that there’s such a thing as manners, a way of treating people” He then proceeds to tell his co-workers that the fish have manners, but I digress. The point to this is that (mental state aside) he’s right. In a world where manners and treating people with dignity and respect can easily be pushed to the side, it’s a reminder that we are all people doing the best we can. It’s a reminder to myself about keeping my judgements and opinions of others in check. If I were them, I would be doing and being and living the exact same way. I will say that again because it is that powerful (plus I could use the reminderIf I were them, I would be doing and being and living the exact same way. I think this alone is why it is so important for us to show kindness to the people we meet and interact with.

Maybe our little spot in the world can sew a little love, generosity and kindness where the world needs it the most.

Cheers, Dez
