Heads v. Hearts

I was scrolling Instagram one fine afternoon and came across this lovely little pictorial about emotions and energy and where we feel things. I am a firm believer in head and heart emotions. It should go without saying, I was fascinated by this! It got me thinking about how we internalize emotions and the “what if” of it all… Like I said, fascinating!

One of the things that I thought about was Proverbs 4:23. When we don’t guard our hearts our minds sometimes get a little cray-cray. Everything we do flows from our heart… If you don’t believe me, tweet me a holla and we can chat!

I looked at the emotions where the heart energy was the strongest: anger, fear, happiness, anxiety, love and pride. I thought on what the Bible says about those things:

Rid yourself of anger.”

Perfect love drives out fear.”

Come share in your Master’s happiness.”

Cast all your anxiety on Him because he cares for you.”

Faith, Hope and Love but the greatest of these is Love.”

Pride goes before destruction.”

For me all of this is evidence as to why it is essential to guard my heart. Protect it from the things of this world that can entangle it and trip you up. When we let things get to our heart so freely our minds gets pulled in all kinds of directions. Where our hearts are, our minds follow. It’s true with love, it’s true with commitment, it’s true with hard work and grit. In all the greatest sports movies, it’s the heart that reigns over the head and the body. It’s the heart that is the driving force. It makes me wonder what happens if we would all just live life with a little more heart. Put more heart into how we love, how we perform our professions, how we take care of our bodies, how we treat other humans.

Think of how impressive the world would become!

I don’t know about you but I think it would make all the difference.
