I Grounded Myself
For a long time, I thought I was crazy. No, seriously, go with me on this one. I for real thought that one (maybe two) days out of the month, my brain and rational had packed up shop and left me crazy. Maybe not off-her-rocker-ranting-and-raving-lunatic crazy, but seriously a little cray-cray. A little “cry over mis-matched socks and pick a fight with Hubbz over dishwashing detergent” crazy. (WHO DOES THAT ANYWAY!? Sorry, Hubbz, I was a jerk. Love you. Mean it.)
I was talking about this with a friend recently and she suggested I start tracking the crazy… I thought she was crazy (because I’m not, duh!) but I listened to her and did it anyway. Low-and-behold wouldn’t you know that my crazy happened at the exact same time… Wait for it… EVERY. SINGLE. MONTH. It was like an epiphany… That also had a quick “Thank you sweet Jesus I am not crazy” prayer tied to the end of it! Turns out my cray-cray is absolutely, completely, hormonal… And NORMAL!
With my new revelation, I also realized that if I don’t keep that junk in check I can create some pretty crazy chaos in my life faster than you can blink! This snippet of knowledge about myself made me wonder how I can fix it. I came up with a solution that makes my life work…
I ground myself.
Seriously, you read that right…
“Dollface, you’re grounded!”
I turn off my phone, put on my favorite sweatpants and hoodie and hunker down with Pinterest, ESPN.com and my Kindle app… And sometimes a bowl of Sugar Berry. My mom always said, “If you can’t say anything nice, don’t say anything at all!”
Cheers to the Sassy-Chick’s Version of the Time-Out!
Try it for yourself. You can thank me later.
